“If I’m not in love, if I’m not with a long-term companion, I cannot be happy.” Elon Musk. 2017. Rolling Stone Magazine.
We haven’t really spoken about celebrity love in our magazine (and we are not about to make it super common) but we feel it’s time to put our own twist on the conversation about celebrities and their love lives.
In a new interview, the 46 year old Tesla founder, Elon Musk said he was left in severe emotional pain after a recent break-up with actress Amber Heard.
Elon spent a year in relationship with Amber following her divorce from Johnny Depp. The couple celebrated the blossoming romance on Instagram earlier this year.
Musk said recently, “she broke up with me more than I broke up with her,” he told Rolling Stone magazine. “I was really in love and it hurt bad.” The two former lovebirds met on the set of 2013 action comedy film Machete Kills in which Elon had a cameo appearance.
In an emotional interview, he admits it’s been hard and depression severely hindered him from doing his job recently. He said, “it took every ounce of will to be able to do the model 3 event and not look like the most depressed guy around. For most of that day, I was morbid. And then I had to psych myself up… Drink a couple of Red Bulls, hang out with positive people and then tell myself ‘I have all these people depending on me. All right, do it!’
He explained that it was hard for him to date anyone, saying he doesn’t meet the right people or find the time and he added, “I’m not looking for a one night stand. I’m looking for a serious companion or soulmate… I will never be happy without having someone. Going to sleep alone kills me.”
The interview, completed by former pick up artist Neil Strauss aims to uncover the businessman’s softer side. When Elon discusses his parents’ divorce, Strauss notes, “the tears run silently down his face.”
We think it’s a great thing that one of the world’s most influential businessmen was brave enough to display his emotions like this. Too often in society men are not able to express their emotions, their heartache, and their suffering. Boys at school never encourage each other to express emotions. If another boy was to express emotions he would likely be bullied. Generally speaking, most parents do not encourage a boy to express his emotions.
If Elon was asking us for dating and love advice about what he can do to find love then we would tell him to look inside. It is understandable that humans we want to share our lives with someone. And when you have all the money in the world that feeling must become stronger if you don’t have someone. As of 2016, Musk’s estimated net worth was $7.7bn.
But before we find love we must be extremely comfortable with being single. We must enjoy each moment and celebrate ourselves for who we are and Elon you have done so much and continue to do so much for this planet, so there is so much to love about yourself. It’s time to be happy by yourself. We love you. You can do it! Then love will come to you.
